| COURSE OVERVIEW |
HOLE 1
Par 4. 338m |
| This is a good test first up. With water Hazards left and right a straight tee shot can leave you an easy second shot to a wide flat green. A bunker on the left side of the fairway, and another in the left front of the green make the right side of the fairway the place to be. |
HOLE 2
Par 3. 174m |
| Water to the left and Out Of Bounds on the right makes an accurate tee shot a must. Bunkers front left and right of this wide green means aiming for the middle every time. A Mid to High handicapper would be extremely happy to take 3 on this hole. |
HOLE 3
Par 4. 345m |
| This is another tight hole that requires an accurate tee shot. With Out of Bounds only 10 metres from the fairway along the entire left side, along with Water and Out of bounds on the right side, many unwary golfers have been caught out here. Triple bogie has often been noted on scorecards. A drive to the dogleg left in the fairway will see you with about a 150 metre second shot to a small elevated green, sloping slightly back to front. |
HOLE 4
Par 3. 95m |
| A short 95 metre par 3 gets a giggle from most golfers, as it generally only takes a wedge or 9 iron to hit this green. As water surrounds the green, over clubbing here can leave your ball wet, and you with an unwanted Bogie. |
HOLE 5
Par 4. 360m |
| The fifth hole gives you a wide open fairway to hit your drive, but with water along the left and out of bounds on the right you will still need to keep it reasonably straight. A long second shot to and undulating green that slops from front to back is difficult, with a bunker behind the green adding to concerns. Par is an excellent result on this sleeper. |
HOLE 6
Par 3. 157m |
| For a Mid to High handicapper it will take a mid to long iron to get to this slightly elevated, narrow green. Aiming long on this hole is not always a bad thing, with a bunker front left and gardens front right of the green a miss hit short ball can be more trouble than you expect. |
HOLE 7
Par 4. 365m |
| This par 4 definitely deserves its number 1 ranking. From an elevated tee you have a narrow tee shot (generally only the brave take Driver from here). It has water on the left and right sides for about 150 metres along the fairway. The longer hitters can get in trouble with out of bounds only a few metres from the fairway on the left side and more water right. A long second shot to an elevated narrow green that slopes from back to front, and right to left. A bunker along the left side of the green places additional pressure on this approach shot. Two well struck shots on this hole could see you with a par. Striking the ball poorly here will see you adding up your score with a calculator. |
HOLE 8
Par 4. 258m |
| This short par 4 requires position, rather than length off the tee. The fairway narrows dramatically near the green. Anywhere in the middle of the fairway will leave you no more than a 7 iron to an elevated flat green. The key to this hole is your approach. Hit it left and you'll be out of bounds, right and you're in water. |
HOLE 9
Par 3. 170m |
| This par 3 has out of bounds on the right side for those of us that don't hit straight on this hole that generally plays slightly longer than its noted length. This large, elevated green slopes back to front with the only trouble a bunker on the back right side. |
HOLE 10
Par 5. 483m |
| As with most of Safety Beach this is another hole that rewards a good straight drive. There is Out of Bounds right and water on the left for the longer hitters. You have a beautiful wide fairway for your second shot (however there is a fairway bunker on the right). The third shot on the 10 th is difficult to judge as the green is elevated, and slopes from severely from left to right, with a hollow in the middle. Be happy with 2 putts on this green any time. |
HOLE 11
Par 4. 333m |
| There appears to be a lot of space to hit your tee shot on this hole. Most players hit straight down the fairway here, but others prefer to aim back down the 10 th hole to take out the dogleg. There are, however, a couple of hazards on this hole. A small lake on the left side of the fairway can trap even a well struck drive. If longer hitters take driver they can run out of fairway at the dogleg. The long narrow green requires a precise approach that will be rewarded. The reasonably flat green slopes slightly from back to front. A bunker on the right and rear of the green keeps everyone honest. |
HOLE 12
Par 3. 125m |
| You must carry water all the way to a small green that slopes from back to front on this fantastic hole. Generally you can afford to aim a bit longer here as there is a steep bank behind the green. This type of approach will take the water out of play. If you can land the ball anywhere near the middle of the green, you will have a realistic birdie chance regardless of the pin position. When the wind blows this tiny par 3 really shows its teeth. |
HOLE 13
Par 3. 163m |
| The 13 th is a difficult hole to judge as the tee is sheltered slightly by houses; once the ball has travelled to the green the wind can impact it severely. Many a well struck shot has landed unexpectedly short on this hole. Once at the wide flat green you shouldn't have too many troubles getting it in the hole. |
HOLE 14
Par 4. 232m |
| This short Par 4 certainly rewards a straight tee shot. Longer hitters can drive to this large flat green, while shorter hitters will still only have 50 metres or less to a green that has one bunker left front. Beware of this sleeper though, standing on the tee everyone is thinking easy par. A drive left will end up in water and send one right you'll be Out of Bounds. |
HOLE 15
Par 5. 436m |
| There is plenty of fairway to lay up for your second shot, but watch the bunker on the left side. The wide flat green is not very deep, so it is easy to hit though it. The only protection is a bunker to left of the green. |
HOLE 16
Par 4. 332m |
| This Par 4 requires a good tee shot, and you have plenty of fairway to land it. Out of Bounds on the left side of the fairway is the only danger. The key to this hole is your approach, the elevated shallow green has 2 bunkers on the right side and a deep pot bunker front left. If a Mid to High handicapper can take 4 here, they will walk off the green pleased. |
HOLE 17
Par 3. 183m |
| 183 metres to an elevated, narrow, two tiered green is a tough Par 3 in anyone's book. There is a hazard along the left and water behind the green punishes any shot that is long. With the hazard on the left side, the first reaction is to aim right; however, a bunker on the right side just short of the green will make you think twice. Anytime you can take 3 here you walk off happy. |
HOLE 18
Par 4. 320m |
| The 18 th is a great finishing hole. Out of bounds and water along the right side require an accurate tee shot. Your approach is to a large elevated green with bunkers left. That slopes slightly from right to left. The key here is your drive, get a good one away to finish and you'll be rewarded. |
